WG 4 – MPEG Video Coding

WG 4, MPEG Video Coding Working Group, develops standards for the compression of video and video-related representations, including single and multi-layer representations (base and enhancement layers), immersive representations (multi-view + depth, multi-plane images, light field, and radiance field approximations), and neural aspects of video applications (coding of neural networks, feature maps and tensors), for both human vision and intelligent machine consumption. Standards are developed in active alignment with the other WG’s, and based on a rigorous process involving representative test material, common test conditions, subjective and objective evaluation, call for proposals, core experiments, reference software, conformance and verification tests.
