MPEG-I immersive audio supports 6DoF user experience. In addition to the 3DoF head movements (yaw, pitch and roll), which had already been supported by MPEG-H 3D Audio, the listener can now move within the acoustic scene (x,y,z). The scenes consist of audio objects and acoustic properties of the room including the simulation of acoustics like reverberation, early reflections, occlusion, diffraction and Doppler-shift. MPEG-I Audio standardizes additional metadata and rendering technology that delivers a compelling user experience with full 6DoF freedom of navigation. Rendering includes adaptation of the rendering to the actual listening space improving immersion for AR and VR.
